Kid Cudi‘s new single “Neverland” has seen the Hip Hop veteran break new ground as he brings out the acoustic guitar.
The opening section of the track prominently features an alternative rock influenced acoustic guitar in one of the rapper’s most experimental songs since the release of his 2015 album Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven.
The song later fuses into a stadium rock influenced chorus with Cudi leaning heavily into the Peter Pan theme of the track as he croons: “Sailing to our neverland / We’ll never die, you and I / Chasing something that’ll last / We’ll never die, you and I.”
In a lengthy Instagram post, Cudi added some of his feelings about the song and revealed that his new album will be titled Free.
He wrote: “My friends, I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time. I hope u all enjoy it. I really put my heart and soul into this jam, now, u can listen and take this w you in ur life. Bringing u joy w each listen. To all my fans, I Love You, this one is from the heart like always. Have fun in Neverland.

“P.S. the name of the album is simply titled FREE get ready, taking u to new places my friends.”
In an interview with Hube in March, Cudi shared some information about the upcoming album. It came up after a question about what “makes a collaborative project successful.”
“This new direction that I’m taking with my album has been exciting for me because I put myself in an uncomfortable situation to achieve it,” he said. “When I first started making this album, I didn’t know if I would even be able to sing at the level I needed to in order for it to be executed in the right way. Working on these songs, collaborating with the writers and producers, and building songs from the ground up—it did something for me as an artist.

“I haven’t created like this in a long time. It’s been years. With my last few projects, I was getting beats from different people and building an album that way, but there is something about being in a room and creating something from scratch—from a simple hum—it’s so fulfilling.”
